Dame Barbara Windsor thrilled over upcoming arrival of Peggy Mitchell

"It made her quite emotional and I have been reminding her each time we watch the show"

It was revealed this week that Louise Mitchell will go into early labour due to the stresses of Mel Owen's death, and her mum's increasing erratic behaviour.

Paying tribute to the legendary Peggy Mitchell, EastEnders has revealed that Louise will name her baby Peggy, after her grandmother.

Speaking to The Sun, Babs's husband Scott revealed: "She thought what a lovely thing it is Peggy Mitchell will live on in a family member. What a lovely tribute. "

‘It made her quite emotional and I have been reminding her each time we watch the show every night.’ he continued. ‘Each time her whole face lights up.’

Barbara first arrived in as Peggy Mitchell in 1994 and remained a huge character until her final departure in 2016.

Barbara stepped back from acting after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, but despite her ongoing battle, Scott reveals Babs still enjoys a good laugh: ‘The thing that we know about dementia and Alzheimer’s is that it’s a progressive illness, so you know you’re heading in one direction,’ he said.

‘So, yes, things progress but she still has that wonderful sense of humour, she can still laugh and have a giggle and watch telly, and we go out occasionally.’

EastEnders airs weeknights on BBC One.
